What if I can’t recycle?

The EPA website lists some great options for getting rid of CFL bulbs. Except, contacting waste collection agencies, local retailers and mail-back services doesn’t suit my busy lifestyle. Wait, here’s another choice listed at the very bottom:

“If your state or local environmental regulatory agency permits you to put used or broken CFLs in the regular household trash, seal the bulb in a plastic bag and put it into the outside trash for the next normal trash collection.”

“Now to the numbers!”

I love hearing weather reports during the summer. In a matter of minutes we go from temperatures in the 90s to “weather in the triple digits.” 90-degree weather is hot but no one ever calls that “double-digit heat.” However, when it’s 97 degrees and expected to raise just 3 more, it’s time to break out the “triple digits” and erase all those numbers falling between 100 and 999. Just like in retail when comp sales (sales comparative to the previous year) are reviewed. In weekly conference calls individual stores, districts, and regions get reminded of their performance — this store was up 5%, that store 7%, but store #271 reported double-digit comps (11%) for the third week in a row. Hooray!

My latest mission to lure birds into the dove house involved hanging a seed feeder in the open doorway.  It worked, but my first visitor was a hawk.  It flew over my head about one foot away and really scared me.  And it’s a good thing the sliding glass doors leading into the garage were left open because it flew through those just like it was planned.  I darted in the house to get the kids.  We ducked for cover as it flew around but when it perched we had a rare chance to see it so close.  It finally found its way through both sets of doors and flew off.  Later I realized it was aiming for a white dove that was so visible through the doorway.

Hide The Coleslaw

I had just started enjoying my food when a hand appeared to my left, robbing my plate of a slice of ham. It was Craig alright, and I looked up just in time to see him slap it against Christopher’s face. I was laughing too hard to expect it to continue when that same warm slice hit my cheek. And so began another Becker Stampede on July 10th, this time in Goodells.

Among the highlights were golf cart rides around the ponds, the incredible food, a bean bag toss showdown, feeding the catfish every morning, enjoying the gardens, and a wonderful visit with Grandma Parker in Marlette. And since no family gathering at Terramor Farm is complete without a crazy side project, Dad came up with one involving a step ladder, a water pump, and a pitchfork, which actually worked.

Being together with the entire family is a rare occurrence but the feeling it produces is powerful and lasting, even if it means putting up with displaced lunch items.

Some photo

Cassielle just received her group picture from when she visited DC.  It’s a wide panoramic view of at least 60 people standing in front of the White House.  Everyone is posed so nicely and they’re all standing in descending order of height starting from the center.  What a beautiful shot.  Then, Gayle spotted one student in the photo three times and a teacher and three other students in the photo twice.  The entire thing was a chop job and, at closer look, not a very good one.  It might bring a C+ grade in Photoshop 101.  Were they even standing in front of the White House?  I didn’t think to ask.
